What age did you begin playing a musical instrument? Piano at age 5, trumpet at age 9.
Why did you choose the instrument you play? I originally wanted to play the violin when string instruments were introduced in elementary school. My mother suggested I wait until the next year when the band instruments were introduced because she thought I’d have more fun with those. When I said I wanted to play the drums, my mom also naturally objected to that. My next choice was the trumpet.
Who is your favorite composer, and favorite work? Why? I really enjoy the music of Brahms, Mahler, and Ravel. I can’t say I have a favorite piece, but I like Brahms because of his brilliant composition technique, Mahler for his ability to create so many different moods and textures, and Ravel for his brilliant orchestrating and sound.
How many years have you been performing with Symphony in C? The 2008-2009 season is my first year as a member of the orchestra. I’ve been a substitute since my first years at Curtis.
What’s your favorite part about playing in Symphony in C?
The energy and excitement that the orchestra has.
Where do you aspire to be in ten years? And what do you plan to do?
In 10 years I would love to be playing in a top 5 orchestra
What are you currently listening to on your I-pod?
A little bit of everything. Probably more non-classical music than anything else.
What other interests outside of music do you share, if any?
I enjoy sports, cooking, arranging, language, computers, and spending time with friends.
