What age did you begin playing a musical instrument?
5 years old (violin), 11 years old (bassoon)
Why did you choose the instrument you play?
I chose the violin because my mother saw Suzuki lessons advertised in a newspaper. I chose bassoon because the band director at my middle school wouldn't let me play anything else, but in spite of the compulsory beginnings, I've come to love both instruments.
Who is your favorite composer, and favorite work? Why?
I can't say for certain because it always changes, but I've always loved Brahms, especially the violin concerto. It is an immensely complex symphonic piece of writing, and it displays every single facet of violin playing (for the soloist) possible.
How many years have you been performing with Symphony in C?
2 years
What’s your favorite part about playing in Symphony in C?
The level and amount of repertoire that we cover is amazing considering our resources.
Where do you aspire to be in ten years? And what do you plan to do?
I aspire to be in a similar situation in another orchestra (principal bassoon) while also being active as a fiddler on the jazz and bluegrass scene, hopefully in Nashville or somewhere similar. I also hope to be able to conduct regularly.
What are you currently listening to on your I-pod?
Move Along - All-American Rejects (2006)
What other interests outside of music do you share, if any?
I love to ski, cook and read- especially British novels from the first half of the 20th century.
