What age did you begin playing a musical instrument? Age 5, piano

Why did you choose the instrument you play?In fourth grade, I had to choose an instrument to play for band. The fifth graders demonstrated brass instruments and I was immediately drawn to the trombone after hearing a raunchy glissando!

Who is your favorite composer, and favorite work? Why?I have two really favorite pieces: Ravel’s Daphnis et Chloé and Stravinsky’s Le Sacre du Printemps. Ancient love and ancient sacrifice – but both works are testaments to masterful orchestration, color, passion and energy. I could go on at length as to why these are two incredible works, but suffice to say I always get goose bumps no matter how many times I hear them!

How many years have you been performing with Symphony in C?The 2007-2008 season is my fourth season with the Symphony.

What’s your favorite part about playing in Symphony in C?It’s inspiring to collaborate with many great players in this orchestra. In the low brass section, I’m lucky to perform with colleagues whose playing I greatly admire. Feeling such strong energy from within the orchestra and seeing the audience respond is always fulfilling.

Where do you aspire to be in ten years? And what do you plan to do?Happy in life and happy in work. I’d love to play in a great orchestra and make music on a high artistic level.

What are you currently listening to on your I-pod?I admit that I’m a classical music junkie. I love listening and studying so many great works. I also enjoy salsa and classic rock.

What other interests outside of music do you share, if any?I have a big interest in railroading as well as aviation. I also enjoy outdoor activities, particularly cycling, kayaking, and camping.
