Announces Auditions for vacancies commencing in the 2017-18 Season

Auditions will be held on:
Thursday, September 7, 2017 (10am-6pm) and
Friday, September 8, 2017 (10am-6pm) 
The Curtis Institute of Music, Philadelphia, PA

Saturday, September 9, 2017 (10am-6pm) at The Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore, MD

Sunday, September 10, 2017 (9am-9pm) at The Manhattan School of Music, NYC

Symphony in C is a Professional Development Orchestra serving aspiring orchestral musicians in the Greater Philadelphia region, New Jersey, and New York City. The Symphony provides concert performance opportunities, professional development experiences, and educational programs.

The base pay scale for the 2017-18 season will be $85 for rehearsal; $51 for sound check prior to a performance and $116 per concert service. Musicians are paid on a per service basis.

  • Five Season Concerts per year, as well as other performance opportunities.
  • Concerts for Young People concert services (two 45-minute concerts per service).

  • Professional Development Seminars and Workshops

  • Associate Principal 2nd Violin (2nd chair)

  • Clarinet III / Bass Clarinet
  • Bassoon III / Contrabassoon

Auditions are open to students pursuing a degree at a college, university, or conservatory and recent graduates. To apply, mail or e-mail resume in addition to audition time preference (Thurs., Fri., Sun.) to address below. We will try to accommodate your request, but can make no guarantee. (Please note that the Sunday auditions will be held at Manhattan School of Music)

Audition repertoire:
Strings- Two contrasting solo compositions (or movements) of your choice - J.S. Bach is preferred for one of the choices; no orchestra excerpts required.
Winds and Brass- One solo composition and three contrasting excerpts of your choice.

Contrabassoon Auditionees need not bring a contra.  You will be considered for the position with standard bassoon excerpts on your main instrument (we do not have a contra to provide).

Bass Clarinet Auditionees, if you do own a bass and it's not too much trouble, we would appreciate hearing you play a bass clarinet excerpt as one of your choices. 

Accompaniment is not required for the auditions.  If you choose to play a concerto or sonata, please play the work(s) unaccompanied.
